Information on Hostels

Like I stated earlier there are many different types of hostels for all types of needs. The most supportive and modern establishments are run by the voluntary organisations and registered social landlords (RSL's). Many of these types of supported accommodation are aimed at specific client groups, such as young people, mental health, families, mother & baby and substance mis-users e.t.c... These are staffed by specialist professional people who have a good understanding in the support needs of the individuals under their care. As a resident you will have a support worker, who will do a support plan to develop the skills necessary for you to live independently and sustain a tenancy succesfully in the future. The support worker will empower you, so you can speak up for yourself in the correct manner to deal with any situation that you might encounter. They will also help you access permanent accommodation and the move on, which can be a stressful time. You will get help with furnishings by filling in community care grants and applying to different charities for help.

The rules and tenancy agreements are a lot more user friendly and the facilities are normally more modern and up to date. You will have the opportunity to completly transform your life for the better by taking up courses and training whilst you stay there. This can open up career pathways so you can gain full-time employment in the future. These places are by far the best type of temporary accommodation available to you.

The local authorites in South Wales differ, Cardiff being the capital has a lot more supported accommodation to suit different needs and RSL's compared to Newport. They are light years ahead, maybe this it's because it's the Capital. Never the less, all the other towns and cities should be following suit by handing over the running of their hostels to specialist RSL's who can eventually save them money by stopping the cycle of homelessness. This is the best prevention.

Newport has an experienced RSL who has dealt with the single homeless people in a ground breaking way for many years. Yet the power happy heirachy of this council are blind and no-one has got the sense to change! They still do not learn and prevent families from returning time and time again. They still waste tax payers money on forking out hundreds and thousands of pounds each year to greedy Hotel and Bed & Breakfast owners. Who even hold the council to ransom on occasions when they have failed to pay on time. They have even failed to provide a secure project to house sex offenders, even though they have known for years it was needed through the support needs mapping survey thats been carried out by themselves. I will say no more on this subject, and I just hope the enquiry gets to find out the truth of their failure to protect the public. Well now that's out of my system, below is a list, it's not got everyone on there, but I will adding more when I get the chance. Hope it helps.
